Oughtibridge War Memorial Sports Club – Chairman 2010-2025
Ian Sanderson was asked to be a Trustee and Chairman of the OWMSC Charity in NW Sheffield after his Father Doug Sanderson passed away in 2009. Doug had been Chairman of the Cricket section there for over 40 years. In his 15 years as Chairman he oversaw fundraising which delivered a New Cricket Pavillion and lounge after the previous one was washed away in the 2007 Floods. Opened in 2013, it led to a resurgence of the club in all its forms which now boasts many Cricket Teams including Ladies and Juniors, and various men’s, ladies and new junior football Teams. The Club was a major venue for the Tour De France (both Camping and events) as it passed through Oughtibridge, and Ian brought large Music events and Fireworks events to the village, the former now carrying on by other volunteers. Ian remains a Trustee but stepped down as Chairman in 2025.
Stocksbridge Towns Fund – Former Co-Chair now project Lead for the High Street
Ian was asked to join the Board of the successful Towns Fund Bid by then MP Miriam Cates. He later became co-Chair and with his development and sports experience gave direction on a number of High Profile Projects. As the High Street Regeneration was the top priority of the local population, he stepped down as Co-Chair to be Project Lead on the anchor building of the c£16M “519 Hub” building. It will house Cafes, Business space, Education space, community and art space and a New Library. He proposed and is involved in both the “shop front replacement scheme” and the Town Square thus joining 2 distinct zones by various property acquisitions and demolitions, to create a remodelled and coherent vibrant Stocksbridge High Street.
